The Lumière Festival, presented each year by the New Edinburgh Community & Arts Centre, is the hidden gem of Ottawa festivals. It is held every year within the month of August culminating in the Lumière Evening of Light Celebration, which this year is on August 15th. Stanley Park is turned into a magical place full of light and fairies. I personally have been helping out for numerous years building lanterns and will be helping out at a number of the workshops this year.
“The Lumière Evening of Light Celebration will enthral you whether on your own, with friends or with family; a teen or a senior. From the lanterns on display, to the labyrinth, to the performers and music – all illuminated by only lantern and lamplight, Lumière will hold you in its spell. Come re-discover the night and the magic of light!”
Through lantern-making workshops and community outreach initiatives. Lumière encourages people to come together and share their own creations and view the creations of others in a celebration of light and community.
“Drop in to any workshop and make a lantern of your choosing! There are different types and styles of lantern for suitable for different ages and skill levels.
You will be guided through the lantern making process and walk away with a beautiful lantern which we hope you will bring with you to the Lumière Festival on August 15th, 2015 in Stanley Park. There you will find a special section for our workshop lanterns. Have our volunteers help you hang yours in the tree, light it and then you can bring it home with you at the end of the evening.
Workshops are family-friendly and are a great way for everyone to exercise their creativity (and brighten up their home)!”
