Coffee With Cats

Cat in red bow tie drinking morning coffee with cookies

Starting tomorrow I’ll be running a new monthly adoption event for the Ottawa Stray Cat Rescue at Pet Valu Trainyards in Ottawa. It’s on the third Saturday of every month from 10am -2pm. For a small donation to the rescue you can come have a bit of breakfast and check out adoptable cats. There will be coffee freshly brewed throughout the event, muffins I baked fresh that morning, and other goodies baked by awesome OSCatR volunteers!

So come join us some Saturday at Coffee with Cats!

Mission Pawsible – Beat the Heat Online Auction

Until July 16, 2017 Mission Pawsible is having an online auction! The proceeds of the auction go to help out two wonderful animal rescues in Ottawa, ON; The Ottawa Stray Cat Rescue and Furry Tales Rescue.

A word of why the rescues need help from the Mission Pawsible people;

‘Between the two rescues, there are over 200 cats in care with daily requests to take in more cats. The rescues cannot take in cats and help them find their forever homes without the funds to make sure the cats have been vet checked, vaccinated, spayed/neutered and microchiped. Adoption fees do not cover associated medical costs so fundraisers like this one help to bridge the gap.

Please help us make this auction a successful one so that more cats can be saved and find their forever homes!’

The auction is not just for cat lovers! Many of the items were donated by restaurants, jewelry makers, services, and the list goes on.

Bearly Work Creations and I donated a suPURRvisor basket to the auction.

The suPURRvisor basket is a  wicker basket with a pillow and a wooden sign for the front that says suPURRvisior that a small to medium sized cat can fit in.

In the basket is a pillow, a hand hooked wool rug called Fat Cat from Bearly Work Creations  and a number of crocheted things by me; a placemat, a Santa Paws stocking, and a Jingle Jangle toy.

Help Animals In Need Simply By Walking

I just had a great app shared with me called ResQWalk,  and I’ll be giving it a full test run later.

The whole idea is that the app uses the GPS on your phone to track how much you walk and your favorite rescue gets some money.  When you first sign in you can choose which rescue to walk for. If you want to walk for more than one you simply have to reset it to the new one. Many local rescues are already signed up so it shouldn’t be to hard to find your favorite, and the app allows you to follow as many rescues as you want. Obviously I’ll be walking for the Ottawa Stray Cat Rescue, but I may from time to time walk for another.

You can download the app for either iOs or Android. It also helps you find local pet friendly areas such as parks, vets, lodging, etc. All in all a great resource for people with animal companions.

It’s that easy to help animal rescues get much needed funds. Every bit helps!

It’s kitten season and the Ottawa Stray Cat Rescue is in need of some help. They have over seventy , yes 70!! , kittens in care right now. It takes a lot of food to keep those little bellies full!

Please consider helping them out. You can check out their website  or Facebook page for more info about the rescue and all of the wonderful work they do.

Featured Feline Friday (OSCatR)- Charlie

This week’s Featured Feline Friday from the Ottawa Stray Cat Rescue is the lovely Charlie.

This sweet momma is in need of some help.

Charlie vet

Charlie came into care while she was pregnant. She is very friendly and affectionate. She’s very tiny and was born without a tail. Charlie is playful, curious, and she loves to chase little foil balls that she carries around in her mouth while chirping away. She really enjoys being brushed and will pat your hand until you scratch her ears.

While in care she gave birth to four wonderful kittens who have all been adopted. Now she’s looking for her forever home.

Featured Feline Friday (OSCatR)- Alun

I’ve decided to start another weekly feature; Featured Feline Friday! For now it will be cats from the Ottawa Stray Cat Rescue but in the future I may start a second Featured Feline Friday post showcasing cats from other rescues.

Our debut cat is a mature gentleman named Alun!

Alun is a super sweet, laid back kind of guy. He is calm and easy going, and being a little bit mature he is not all that interested in toys. This guy loves his canned food, and has really enjoyed going to bed with a full belly every night. Alun has melted the hearts of everyone hes met, will he melt yours too?

Oh we almost forgot to mention, Alun is polydactyl! You just have to love those big pawed kitties!!

A Busy Saturday of Helping Animals

Tomorrow DRC has a full day of helping out animals in need.  I’ll be starting off the day at the PunkOttawa Fleamarket where I’ll be a vendor, and then off to a local show I organized called Titties 4 Kitties 3!

Both events benefit The Ottawa Stray Cat Rescue where I volunteer. While the fleamarket also benefits the Wild Bird Care Center, and Titties 4 Kitties 3 also benefits SafePet Ottawa.

For more details on both of these events check out the above links to the Facebook Event Pages.

Along with the places mentioned in the event, tickets for Titties 4 Kitties 3 will be available at the DRC table at the PunkOttawa Fleamarket tomorrow.
