Help Animals In Need Simply By Walking

I just had a great app shared with me called ResQWalk,  and I’ll be giving it a full test run later.

The whole idea is that the app uses the GPS on your phone to track how much you walk and your favorite rescue gets some money.  When you first sign in you can choose which rescue to walk for. If you want to walk for more than one you simply have to reset it to the new one. Many local rescues are already signed up so it shouldn’t be to hard to find your favorite, and the app allows you to follow as many rescues as you want. Obviously I’ll be walking for the Ottawa Stray Cat Rescue, but I may from time to time walk for another.

You can download the app for either iOs or Android. It also helps you find local pet friendly areas such as parks, vets, lodging, etc. All in all a great resource for people with animal companions.

It’s that easy to help animal rescues get much needed funds. Every bit helps!

Thanks for Giving Adoption Event

Looking for something to do in Ottawa this sunday?

Then you should consider heading to a Pet Valu store for the Ottawa Stray Cat Rescue‘s Thanks for the Giving adoption event. They are happening from 11am – 3pm at the Pet Valu’s on Greenbank, Merivale,  Alta Vista, and Beechwood (where I’ll be helping out).

Besides all the cute cats for adoption there is also merc from the OSCatR for sale to help raise some much needed funds to help the cats in care.  Just check out the pic below of Alun… he’s looking for a home and helping sell merc!

Rescue Block Party Was A Success!!

Rescue Block Party hosted by Chew-That in Ottawa. It was to help raise funds for the Ottawa Stray Cat Rescue, Sit With Me, and the Ottawa Dog Rescue. It was a hot afternoon but a great time was had by all. Especially all the puppies in attendance. They even got to take pics with a firetruck! Only saw one cat there though, and he was amazing. A huge Main Coon named Ranger. He was bigger than some of the dogs I met and he was the runt of his litter. Beautiful and majestic guy.  I managed to take a few pics while there, many of them of the same little guy who I would have adopted if I could have. All of the adoptable animals had  bandannas on saying they were adoptable and what organization they were with. This one little guy was so small that his bandanna turned into a cape. He was all sorts of super!

Rescue Block Party July 19th

For anyone in the Ottawa area here’s a great event in support of three local rescue  groups.  I’ll definitely be there! I’ll be doing some baking (ginger cookies & cupcakes) and may have some kitty toys for sale.

Ottawa Stray Cat Rescue – HelpCats.ca

I just wanted to share with you a bit of info about a wonderful organization here in Ottawa that I just started volunteering with.

The Ottawa Stray Cat Rescue

OSCatR is  no-kill, volunteer-run cat rescue based in Ottawa, Ontario, established in 2011. OSCatR does not have a shelter or central facility and all cats are in loving foster homes allowing the cats more freedom to be cats and maximizing the use of funds and donations.

OSCatR feels that feral cats deserve the best life possible, even if that life is outdoors. Community members make this possible by feeding and monitoring feral cats, which are humane-trapped by OSCatR, spayed/neutered and released back into the colony. OSCatR does not test for FIV or FeLV; instead, we spay/neuter to prevent the spread of these diseases as much as possible.
